Professionally…

I am a certified K-12 school counselor in the state of Michigan. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education from Central Michigan University and a Master of Counseling Degree from the CACREP accredited counseling program at Oakland University. I am a member of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and the Michigan School Counseling Association (MSCA).

I was a high school counselor for 5 years at Lakeland High School.  In 2011, our counseling department was the first in Michigan to receive the RAMP award. Before arriving at LHS, I was a teacher of various courses including; business, health, leadership, and broadcast news. I was a softball and volleyball coach, the Student Activities Director, and 2004 class sponsor at Milford High School.

I was in Huron Valley for 12 years before deciding to stay-at-home with my two children. My principal had moved districts and asked me to train his district in the ASCA National Model. This is when I began consulting other school counselors on how to implement a comprehensive program.

As a consultant, 2 middle school programs from Grosse Pointe received the RAMP award in 2016. (only 7 in Michigan) As I worked with these schools to become RAMP certified, I became an ASCA RAMP reviewer and have been able to work with other school counselor educators and school counselors from around the country.  I received certification in 2015 for the Online Teaching and Learning graduate certificate program at Michigan State University and am using this platform to create school counselor materials online through School Counselor Link, LLC.

I am immersed in raising my children but at the same time trying to keep my professional world alive.  Parenting has been one of the most challenging but self-enlightening jobs I have ever encountered. I will never stop learning!

Personally…

A little bit about me…

I love to travel.  I did part of my student teaching in Australia.  I have traveled to various countries and found a husband who also loves to travel.  With our two children, we have been exploring the U.S. and I hope to again travel to other countries as they get older.

I love to read.  Some of my favorites are Game of Thrones (series) by George R.R. Martin, Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, The Fault in our Stars by John Green, The Hunger Games (series) by Suzanne Colins, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (series) by Stieg Larsson, Essential Spirituality by Roger Walsh, M.D., Ph.D., and Parenting with Love & Logic by Foster Cline, M.D. and Jim Fay.

I love to play sports.  I recently learned how to play tennis.  I have also dabbled in basketball, softball, volleyball, yoga, golf, soccer, floor hockey, and track.

Family is important to me. I have a huge family and so does my husband.  My background in education and counseling has really driven my beliefs about parenting and has also kept me over thinking every aspect of their upbringing.  I have learned that your strengths and weaknesses become magnified 100x as a parent.  You begin to work on your weaknesses because again they are magnified 100x! You learn to become a better person so that your child will, hopefully, model your strengths.
